as web-based services that allow individuals to




(1)Create a public or semi-public profile within a limited system,




(2) Articulate a record of other users with whom they share a connection, and




(3) View and go across their list of connections and those made by others within the system.

There are variety of ways for users to communicate with others in the space which provided by specific sites.

Social network sites are often designed to be widely available; many may appeal to homogeneous populations primarily.




There are huge numbers of personal reasons that a person uses the social networking sites.




Some may want an easy way to keep in touch with family and friends, some may use it for business or job finding, others may use it for dating or just to find like-minded individuals online.

Introduction to Friendster




Friendster was one of the first Web sites to bring it into mass culture when Social networking has become one of the biggest things to hit the Internet since Google.




Friendster.com started in 2002 by U.S. businessman Jonathan Abrams.




While most dating sites focused on introducing people to strangers with similar interests, Friendster was intended to help friends-of-friends meet.

Members are typically teenagers or young adults in their 20s, depending on the country they live in.




It now concentrates on an older, financially independent, post-college crowd as it initially under enemy control in the 20-something market.




Friendster honor itself in bringing a clean, user-friendly and interactive environment where users can simply connect with anyone around the world.




Friendster also believe as the first global online social network




Friendster now can fully support nine languages which include English, Malay, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Spanish.

How to become a Friendster?




1. First you need to create an account.




2. You must read the Agreement and point out your acceptance of its terms by following the orders on the "Sign Up" page and read-through the box labeled "I agree to Friendster's terms of service”




3. Clicking the sign up button on the main page will bring you to a form which asks for your personal in formation.

4. You'll also go through a security question for fear that you forget your user name and password.




5. Next you'll be asked to upload a photo.







6. If you're shy or did not to put a photo which represents you, you may just click "continue."




7. Keep to the directions to check your e-mail for a proof notice, and that's it.




8. You're a Friendster now!

How to add the applications?




1. First, you need to click the explore button, which allocate at the blue navigation bar at the top of the page of your profile and then click the applications button




2. Then you will be seeing a page that just likes left side of sample picture.




3. After that choose the applications that you want and then click the add to profile button which below each of the applications.




4. And that’s it; you have added applications to your profiles!

Most of the applications are free, however some require you to earn "spending" points

How to Create a “Social Group”?




1. First, you click the my connections tab in the blue navigation bar at the top of the page in your home page.

2. And, then, click the Groups button.




3. After that, a page that will show the groups that you have been joined all along will be come out in front to you : which like just like the besides picture samples.

How to Create a “Social Group”?




4. Next, you just click the create group button at the below of the title “My Group” on that page.




5. Afterwards, you will be bringing to a form that asks for your group information that you want to create: which just like at the left side sample picture.




6. After you have finished fill up the form, you can just click the save button which at the bottom of the form and that’s it.




7. You have created a group!

For the presentation, Early Edition (the group) had been created to show how a “social group” can be created.




The group had been created on 12th July 2008




Until on 26th July 2008, the Group has consists of 44 members

It is a television series which the plot is set in the city of Chicago, Illinois;




It followed the adventures of a man who try to prevent dreadful events day by day, which he discover regarding by getting the next day's Chicago Sun-Times newspaper the day before it is officially published.










The member of the group can give some discussions or announcements that related to the group




Joining the group give enjoyment and excitement because can discover new friend that have the same interest about the television series.

Friendster claims it "does not send spam or sell email addresses“.




There are certain personal data is required for registration.




Friendster may share non-identifiable data such as user patterns to help advertisers aim their viewers more professionally.

With the exemption of a few basics viewable to all, who sees your profile is mainly up to you.




Blocking individual users from get into your profile is one way to stay away from unwanted solicitation.




Regulate privacy settings to categorize out certain countries, limit access to "friends-only" or second-degree access




The public setting means it's viewable to all.

However you can simply change your setting to "anonymous," in that way avoids anyone from knowing you viewed them.

Anxiety about youth safety may be less of an issue now that Friendster targets age 18 or above audience, and you must be at least age 16 to join.




But it should be noted that there's really no reliable way to tell fact from untruth in the world of virtual personalities.
